Marriage in Romania

The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Bucharest cannot issue documents for marriage or Apostille-imprint. It is not possible to get married at the Embassy in Bucharest.

Examination of marriage criteria

Before anybody can marry after Norwegian or foreign law, the criteria of marriage must be reviewed. For Norwegian citizens living in Norway, the review will be made by the national registration office in the local municipality where one of the persons are registered as settled. For Norwegian citizens that live abroad, the review will be carried out by the Norwegian Tax Administration.

Documents that are issued in Norway must have an Apostille-imprint. The embassy recommends that contact with Romanian authorities is established in proper time to clarify all details regarding which documents, confirmations and translations that are needed.
