The Norwegian Minister of Health and Care Services, Mrs. Anne-Grete Strøm-Erichsen, has visited Romania between 28-29 June to see three projects funded through the EEA and Norway Grants. The Norwegian minister has also met with the Romanian health minister, Mr. Cseke Attila, to discuss further cooperation between Norway and Romania in the health sector.

On March 31st the Norwegian ambassador Mr. Hovdkinn participated in the closing conference of the NGO Fund established under the EEA Financial Mechanism. 115 projects by Romanian NGOs have benefited of EUR 5 million in grant assistance between 2009-2011 in various focus areas. The 99,45% absorption rate prove both the needs of the sector and the success of the Fund.

The closing conference occasioned by the completion of the EEA and Norway Grants 2007-2009 took place in Bucharest on June 7th. The event brought together over 220 participants, project promoters, media, National Focal Point and Innovation Norway staff, representatives of Norwegian companies in Romania, and the diplomatic corps.

Between April 4-6 the Norwegian ambassador, Mr. Øystein Hovdkinn paid a visit to several EEA Grants projects in Transylvania to assess implementation progress and results achieved. The visit ended with the inauguration of the 5th Gate of the Vauban Fortification in Alba Iulia, restored with a grant from Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein through the EEA Financial Mechanism.
