The Norwegian Cooperation Programme (Norway Grants) was launched in 2007, the year when Romania entered the European Economic Area (EEA).The Programme is part of Norway's contribution to Romania in connection with the EEA (and EU) enlargement and the aim is to reduce social and economic disparities within the European Economic Area, and to enable all EEA countries (Norway, Iceland and Lichtenstein) to participate fully in EU's internal market. The administration of this programme is entrusted to Innovation Norway, a state-owned company under the Norwegian Ministry of Trade and Industry. The National Focal Point for coordination in Romania is the Authority for Coordination of Structural Instruments in the Romanian Ministry of Public Finance.
In additon to the Norwegian Cooperation Programme (Norway Grants) an EEA Financial Mechanism (EEA Grants) is also in operation, mainly for public and NGO actors in Romania. It has provided support for projects of public benefit within the sectors Protection of the environment, Human resource development, Health and childcare as well as Conservation of european cultural heritage. The EEA Financial Mechanism is administered by the Authority for Coordination of Structural Instruments in the Romanian Ministry of Public Finance.
