On 15 –16 March, a two-day regional seminar “Eco-Innovation in Waste Management” by the Norwegian Embassy in Bucharest and Innovation Norway, in partnership with the Romanian and Norwegian Ministries of Environment, and the Regional Agency for Environmental Protection (REPA) was organised in Sibiu.
Synergies explored
The event explored synergies between three projects in waste management funded through the Norwegian Cooperation Programme with Romania (Norway Grants), namely: the project “Development of emergent ecological markets in Romania” implemented jointly by the Romanian and Norwegian Ministries of Environment, the project “Partnership for a Clean Environment in Region 7 Centru”

Over 100 representatives present
Over 100 representatives of Romanian and Norwegian private and public business sector, waste management associations and central and local authorities in Region 7 Centre took part in the seminar.
The agenda of the first day of the event included presentations and discussions on the environmental technology market in Romania, waste management solutions/technologies developed by Romanian providers and financing schemes for waste management projects. A series of 9 Norwegian companies and research institutions presented innovative waste management technologies and solutions which could be applicable for the Romanian market, such as for instance “The Garbage Press” which will be produced by the Norwegian – Romanian partnership Haugland Group - Harplast in Miercurea Ciuc under the Norway Grants.

12 Romanian waste management SMEs had bilateral discussion for potential future cooperation with 5 Norwegian SMEs during a match-making session in the second day of the seminar organized by the Norwegian Embassy and Innovation Norway in the framework of the “Partnership for Development” Project. The discussions focused on possible areas of future cooperation in biogas production, collection and recycling of electrical and electronic waste, landfills conformity, environmental data collection and monitoring etc.
At the end of the seminar, the representatives of several Norwegian companies participating in the discussions visited a municipal conformed landfill on the outskirts of Sibiu, accompanied by the representatives of the Norwegian Embassy and of REPA Sibiu.
