Romanian research viable thanks to Norway Grants

30/09/2009 // Norway grants 2,5 million Euro to an air pollution research project in the small but research advanced town Maguerele, Romania.

The small town Maguerele is bigger than you think. Bucharest’s physics university is situated here as well is a research institute for astronomy and highly advanced technologies for measuring pollution indicators. So all in all, Maguerele is so much bigger than you would ever assume.

With the help of 2,5 million Euro given by Norway through Norway Grants researchers in the city can continue to measure aerosol, as a part in a all-European network, which is vital for climate change research. The grant will also help expand this important research to Timisoara, Cluj and Iasi.

Because of the economic hardships which Romania is currently facing this project would most likely not have survived without the Norwegian solidarity contribution, a contribution which Norway looks upon as a privilege.

There is a more extensive article on this project written by Euobserver which is available here!
