Blom contributes to including Orheiul Vechi on the UNESCO World Heritage List

Last updated: 08/02/2011 // The cultural-natural reserve Orheiul Vechi in the Republic of Moldova represents an open-air sightseeing spot notable for its landscape, cave monasteries and monumental ancient stone constructions which attract attention of scientists and tourists alike.

Complying with the Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage 1972, the Republic of Moldova has developed legal and administrative measures to ensure that effective and active measures are taken for the protection, conservation and preservation of Orheiul Vechi.

In order to be nominated for the World Heritage Committee’s consideration, an appropriate Management Plan is an essential element of the documentation. This should highlight the outstanding universal value the site, preservation methods, preferably through participatory means, the rules and guidelines for activities in the specific area.

In July 2010 the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova initiated a tender procedure to procure services for development planning documentation for Orheiul Vechi. The project was won and successfully implemented by Blom Romania in association with Blom Moldova.

The overall result is a complex document on the cultural-natural reservation Orheiul Vechi which sets up a historical and cultural heritage conservation and protection strategy on the one hand and an urban development strategy on the other hand.

All the efforts are channeled towards increasing the chances of Orheiul Vechi to be included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
