The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize to Liu Xiaobo for his longstanding non-violent fight for human rights in China. Read more

July 1, 2010 marked the first day of the Norwegian Presidency of the Council of the Baltic Sea States which will last for a year. Norway will continue to prioritize the fight against human trafficking, in which the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) is already heavily involved. Other priorities include environment and energy. Read more

The election of the next Secretary General of the Council of Europe took place in Strasbourg 29 September. Thorbjørn Jagland, President of Parliament and former Prime Minister of Norway, won and will be the Council’s next Secretary General. Read more
