Grenlandsaksjonen for Romania – 20 years of assistance

”Grenlandsaksjonen for Romania ” is an independent humanitarian aid organization which was established in the Grenland area, Telemark County in Norway in December 1989. This is a charity organization based on volunteer workers who want to give a long-lasting contribution to poor people in other parts of Europe .

Grenlandsaksjonen sent their first three trucks with equipment to Romania just by end of December 1989. Until February 2009 the organization has sent 180 trucks with 90 m³ equipment each, in addition to a number of buses and ambulances as gifts to people and hospitals in the north-eastern part of Romania. The main equipment is packages which are delivered directly to families in their villages. The deliveries are organized in cooperation with the mayors and the social authorities in the municipalities.

 

The activities of Grenlandsaksjonen the first 20 years can be summarized as follows:

 

·         More than 125.000 packages have been delivered to Romanian families

 

·         An orphanage for children and youth has been built in Pascani

 

·         A center for disabled people has been built in Onesti

 

·         A number of new houses have been built in the village Beresti Tazlau for people that have lost their homes in floods

 

·         Total renovation of an orphanage in Tirgu Ocna

 

·         Construction of a new ergo-therapeutic center in Tirgu Ocna

 

·         A lot of equipment for the handicapped, computers and more have been delivered to hospitals, dentist offices, schools, and habitations for orphan children.

 

The organization is financed by gifts and payments from members and other supporters, and has no economical support from any authorities.
