Mr Geir Lundestad, the Director of the Norwegian Nobel Institute visiting Romania

The director of the Norwegian Nobel Institute Mr. Geir Lundestad will be visiting Romania between 5-9 May 2010. During his stay he will deliver two lectures at the Faculty of History and at the Romanian Diplomatic Institute.

Professor Lundestad is director of the Norwegian Nobel Institute, Secretary of the Norwegian Nobel Committee and teaches international history at the University in Oslo. He has written many books, studies and articles and contributed to a great number of anthologies on contemporary international relations and on modern American history.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee awards the Nobel Peace Prize each year according to the guidelines laid down in Alfred Nobel’s will to whoever "shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses". The Peace prize is awarded in Oslo, whereas the others such as literature, physics etc are awarded in Stockholm.

The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Bucharest together with the Romanian Diplomatic Institute have the pleasure to invite everyone interested to attend the two lectures delivered by professor Lundestad on Thursday, May 6th. The topics of the lectures will be:
•  “The United States and Europe: Cooperation and Conflict: Past, Present, Future”, at 11.00 am at the Faculty of History in Bucharest  and
•  “Can the Nobel Peace Prize produce peace in the world?”, at 5.00 pm. at the Romanian Diplomatic Institute
